What babies are practicing around 6 months
Many 6-month-olds are exploring with their mouths, reaching for toys, practicing rolling or supported sitting, reacting to familiar people, and making more sounds. Milestones vary, so use this as a loose planning lens, not a grading system.
The activity menu
Pick two or three, then repeat. Babies do not know you already did scarf peekaboo yesterday. They are not keeping a spreadsheet.
- Mirror time: place a baby-safe mirror nearby during tummy time and narrate what they notice.
- Texture basket: offer a soft cloth, silicone teether, crinkly fabric, and board book while supervising closely.
- Stacking cup reach: place cups just out of reach during floor play to invite rolling, reaching, or pivoting.
- Kitchen concert: tap spoons on plastic containers and pause so baby can respond with sounds.
- Laundry color talk: fold nearby and name colors, textures, and clothing items while baby watches.
- Outdoor reset: sit in shade, describe sounds, and let baby look at trees, light, and movement.

Plan 8 safe, screen-free activities for my 6-month-old using things I already have in [room]. For each activity, include setup, how long it may last, what skill it supports, cleanup, and one safety note. Keep it realistic for a tired parent.
A soft daily rhythm
Try a simple rotation: feed, floor play, outside or window time, book, nap routine, repeat. The rhythm is there to support you, not to become one more thing judging you from the fridge.
